Amber’s grandad was cared for at our Warwick Myton Hospice in 2018. More recently, as a lash technician, one of Amber’s clients is also being supported by Myton. Amber said:
When my grandad spent his final weeks at Myton, the care and support he received left a lasting impression on me. The team were so compassionate, not just towards him, but towards our whole family. They made an incredibly difficult time feel that little bit more manageable.
My client is currently living with cancer and is being supported by Myton, and she speaks so highly of the care she receives. Seeing the compassion and genuine kindness the team have shown her has been nothing short of incredible. They don’t just care for patients medically – they support them emotionally, preserve their dignity and comfort, and help families through one of the toughest times imaginable. It really shows how special Myton is.
Inspired by these personal experiences, Amber decided to take on a fundraising challenge for Myton. Alongside seven friends, she set herself the goal of climbing Mount Snowdon.
Seeing first-hand how important Myton’s support is, not just for patients but their families too, I knew I wanted to do something to give back. Climbing Mount Snowdon was a real challenge for me, as I had never done anything like that before. Being part of a group also gave me a strong sense of responsibility to help ensure everyone made it to the top, which added to the challenge.
Amber and her friends raised an incredible £2,565, smashing their £1,000 target.
She added:
Looking back, the most challenging part was definitely pushing myself physically and mentally in unfamiliar conditions. However, the highlight was reaching the summit, taking in the incredible views, and sharing the whole experience with such an amazing and supportive group of people. If this climb can help support the amazing work Myton does and ensure others receive the same level of care, then every step was well worth it.
Sophie Wardle, Events Fundraiser at The Myton Hospices, said:
We are incredibly grateful to Amber and her friends for their dedication and amazing support. It’s thanks to people like Amber that we can continue to provide our services free of charge. The funds they have raised will make a real difference to the patients and families we care for every day, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without the kindness and generosity of our community.
Did you know…? It costs over £15 million every year to provide our services free of charge to our patients and their loved ones. As a charity, with less than 20% of our funding coming from the NHS, we must raise more than £12 million this year.
We rely on the support of our community and people like Amber to ensure everyone can access the care they need and deserve.
