Sarah was diagnosed with cancer at the end of March 2025 and was told it was inoperable as it had spread rapidly. Her husband, Joel, said:
The whole family is still coming to terms with the devastating news of Sarah’s diagnosis – we haven’t even had the chance to fully process it.

In early May 2025, Sarah was admitted to Coventry Myton Hospice for symptom control and pain management. Joel added:
Myton is such a beautiful place – it’s so serene and peaceful, and the staff simply can’t do enough for everyone. They are truly worth their weight in gold.

Wanting to create a meaningful and special memory, Joel came up with the idea of renewing their wedding vows. With the help of family, friends and Myton staff and volunteers, the occasion was quickly arranged. Joel continued:
We had a few days to pull everything together and somehow we managed it. We invited some of our closest family and friends to share our special day. I’d planned to surprise Sarah, but a few days before, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me again – thankfully she said yes!
The Myton chaplain was incredible. She helped organise the service, shared some beautiful words, and even blessed our rings. It was such a special day for both of us and for everyone who joined us. We’ll treasure it forever.

Reflecting on their experiences with Myton, Joel said:
The Myton Hospices will always hold a special place in my heart and I cannot thank everyone enough. As a musician, I’m determined to raise money and awareness for Myton through the charity I’ve created, called ‘Sarah’s Secret’. This is just the beginning – I have so many ideas to support fundraising for this incredible organisation.
“Sarah is comfortable for now and is surrounded by so much love – you can feel it when you walk into the room. It resonates. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone at Myton.
