Melanie Pitter runs a Clubbercise class in Coventry – a fun, full-body work out that makes exercise feel like a night out. At Christmas last year, one of Mel’s regular members, Jodie Cooke, was admitted to Coventry Myton Hospice following her breast cancer diagnosis.
Mel said:
The sudden diagnosis and speed of it all left me in shock and I was struggling to comprehend it all. I bought some flowers and went to the hospice. As soon as I walked through the doors, I felt the warmth and love of Myton. The receptionist made me feel so welcome. By the time I left, after meeting her family and sharing memories, I felt comforted knowing she was in such good hands.

In memory of Jodie, Mel organised a special Clubbercise charity day event – a two-hour, dance-based fitness class in a darkened room with glow sticks, disco lights and upbeat music. A raffle, cake and drinks stall, face painting and plenty of volunteers helped make the event a huge success. Over 80 people attended, dressed in bright colours. Jodie’s husband Dave, their son Max, her sister Lianne, mum Jill and friends also joined.
Mel recalled:
There were some emotional moments, especially when Jodie’s mum spoke. But it was such a fabulous event!
In total, the event raised an incredible £2,046.63.
Mel added:
Myton do such an incredible job looking after people who are terminally ill. The way the staff care for patients is beautiful to see, and they think about families too – from the gardens with memorial plaques to counselling services. The warmth and the vibe of the place is just amazing.

Claire McDowell, Coventry Fundraising and Front of House Lead at The Myton Hospices, said:
We are incredibly grateful to Mel and everyone who supported her Clubbercise event. This amazing total will go a long way in helping more people, like Jodie and her family, when they need us most – now and in the future. Thank you!
Did you know…? Just 17% of our funding comes from the NHS and we have to raise £12.7 million of the £15.3 it costs this year to continue providing our services free of charge to patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses across Coventry and Warwickshire. Our vital work wouldn’t be possible without the support of amazing people like Mel and our local community. Thank you!
There are lots of ways you can support Myton, from organising your own fundraising to taking part in a Myton event, leaving us a gift in your Will, playing our lottery or shopping with us.
