16-year-old Charlie Buckley set himself a fundraising challenge!

Living in Warwick, Charlie and his family have supported The Myton Hospices as a local charity for a number of years, participating in our Walk for Myton each year since 2019 and tackling our Cycle Challenge for the first time last year.

Charlie’s mum, Camilla, also volunteers on our Inpatient Unit at Warwick Myton Hospice so knows how vital the support we provide is to people and their families living with a life-limiting illness.

However, Charlie’s connection to Myton goes even deeper. Charlie said:

Alongside my mum’s volunteering, two teachers at my school sadly died at The Myton Hospices in the last few years, so I am aware of the importance of the care Myton provides.

Having just finished his GCSEs, Charlie wanted to put his long summer holidays to good use and decided to walk around the island of Jersey whilst on holiday with his family. Charlie and his family took on the 82km walk covering varied terrain.

Charlie commented on his challenge:

It was great to have my family’s support during my challenge, even my uncle joined me on the northern coastal leg. But my dad probably took on the most challenging role as he kindly assisted me with organising the routes we would aim to cover each day. He coordinated maps and bus timetables to ensure we could do it efficiently. The weather and the beautiful scenery made it all worth it!

With his challenge, Charlie raised over £1,000 for The Myton Hospices!

Everyone at Myton would like to say a big thank you to Charlie, his family and everyone who supported his fundraising.

We need to raise £11million of the £14.3 million it costs to continue providing our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones across Coventry and Warwickshire.

We couldn’t do this without people like Charlie – thank you!
