Last week, our Digital Marketing Manager, Dan, joined a panel at the Civil Society Media Ltd Trustee Exchange, hosted at the British Medical Association, to discuss the important role of artificial intelligence.
The session brought together sector voices including Emma Gervasio, Zoe Amar FCIM and Ian McLintock, and focused on how AI is already being used to improve access to information, support decision-making, and streamline services across organisations.
During the panel, Dan also presented Monty, The Myton Hospices AI chatbot, which launched on our website in August 2025. Monty has been developed to help patients, loved ones, healthcare professionals and members of the public quickly find clear and accessible information about hospice care and The Myton Hospices.
Dan’s contribution to the discussion highlighted the importance of keeping people and accessibility at the centre of innovation, using Monty as a practical example of how AI can support service users in meaningful ways.
Speaking after the event, Dan said:
It was a valuable opportunity to be part of a wider discussion on how AI is evolving. Presenting Monty allowed us to show a practical example of how this technology can help more people access the right information, at the right time, in a way that works for them.
Since launching, Monty has been consistently used. The most common enquiries relate to how to get a Myton referral (34%), volunteering and work experience opportunities (23%), and donation enquiries (20%). The chatbot is also helping people access support more efficiently, with 70% of sessions fully resolved within the chatbot itself, 20% resolved through signposting to forms or phone support, and only 10% requiring human follow-up.
Following the conference, The Myton Hospices has also been invited to write an article about Monty and the development of the AI chatbot for the July edition of Governance and Leadership magazine.
We’d like to thank Civil Society Media Ltd for hosting the event, Penny Wilson for chairing the panel, Tania Mason for the invitation, and Carys Pugh and the team for organising the day. It was valuable to be part of a constructive and forward-looking discussion.
