The Myton Hospices Community Engagement Manager, Olivia, was spreading the word about the work we do at The Positive Images Festival in Coventry.

The Positive Images Festival, which started in 1995 as a one day Multicultural Book Fair, celebrates diversity, showcases local talent, promotes partnership working, publicises information about services of partner organisations and offers volunteering opportunities.

The Festival…

People and organisations representing communities, faiths and other forms of diversity lead, take part in and perform at the festival. The Positive Images Festival embraces diversity in all its forms and supports local artists, writers, dancers, musicians and poets, as well as sourcing all of its publicity, equipment and supplies from Coventry.

Olivia’s thoughts…

Olivia, who has previously worked as a palliative care nurse, found the fair to be a useful opportunity to find out more about what the people of Coventry thought of and knew about Myton. While those who work within Myton or have had a personal experience of its services know about the work we do, it’s easy to forget how many people in Coventry and Warwickshire might not know.

Creating connections…

The event also proved useful in creating connections with the other organisations with stalls at the fair. Alongside Myton were a range of organisations including Adopt and Foster for Coventry, Age UK, the Alzheimer’s Society, Belgrade Theatre, Central England Lip-reading Support Trust (CELST), Coventry Association for International Friendship, Coventry Irish Society, Coventry Library Service, Coventry Recovery Partnership, One Voice Parents’ Group, Relate Coventry and Warwickshire, SureCare, Coventry and South Warwickshire United Nations Association Coventry Branch, University of Warwick Centre for Lifelong Learning, Valley House and Voluntary Action Coventry.

Our Vision…

At Myton we want to help as many people who have life limiting and terminal illnesses as possible, and we want to be able to reach people earlier on in their diagnosis. As well as offering Day Hospice services at our three hospices we can also help people through our Living Well Project at Coventry Myton. We know that living with a terminal illness can turn your world upside down and can prevent you doing the things that are important to you. The Living Well Project is aimed at enabling people to identify their most significant concerns and priorities, and providing a range of support, to help them manage the changes in their life and to enable them to do the things that are meaningful to them.
