Last Friday we hosted a special Beach Day at Warwick Myton Hospice for our patients and their families. Organised by our amazing Nursing Assistant, Sophie Evans, the day was filled with sunshine, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Sophie shared the inspiration behind the event:
One of our patients was due to go on holiday with her friends to celebrate her 60th birthday but, unfortunately, she was too unwell to travel. So, we decided to bring the holiday to her! We’ve all been so excited for today, with patients counting down the days to our Beach Day!
The day was packed with entertainment, featuring music and games for everyone to enjoy. A big thank you to the wonderful Peter Delves, Michael Greenhalgh and John Colenso for their fantastic performances.
From Jenga and limbo, to football and tennis, there was something for everyone. The little ones especially enjoyed the beach balls and water guns, while the sandpit and paddling pool, expertly set up by Sophie and her dad, added an extra touch of seaside magic.
For lunch, St John's Fish Bar in Warwick generously donated delicious meals for our patients. A special shoutout to Anchor Chippy in Skegness for providing takeaway boxes, ensuring no one missed out on the fun at lunchtime.
We were also joined by Ice Creams and Dreams, who kindly offered complimentary ice creams to patients and staff, and provided treats to family members at a discounted rate. Terry Chambers and Colleen Abell gifted us some delightful cupcakes, which were a big hit with everyone.
No beach day is complete without classic seaside staples like buckets, spades, and sticks of rock, which were kindly donated by shops in Skegness, thanks to Sophie’s dad holidaying at the seaside destination.
Later in the day, a special guest arrived – the beautiful Braken, a friendly pony, brought along by Jules and Andy. The pony’s visit brought smiles to everyone’s faces!
To wrap up the day, patients were treated to a lovely afternoon tea!
Sophie added:
It’s been such a fun day for everyone, creating special memories with their families that will last forever. We’re hoping to make this an annual event for our Inpatient Units so more people can enjoy it in the future.
On behalf of everyone at The Myton Hospices, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this day special for our patients and their families.
