The Myton Hospices Understanding Grief and Loss in Children & Young People Workshop is to expand your knowledge and develop your understanding of how bereavement affects children and young people. Building confidence in this subject will ensure that bereaved children and young people are supported and responded to appropriately.
The content of the workshop will include:
- The impact of illness and bereavement on children and young people
- Information on theories and models of loss and grief in relation to children, young people and families
- What children and young people need to know
- How to talk with children and young people
- Supporting the families of grieving children and young people
- Responses to grief and needs of children and young people at different ages and developmental stages
- Suggested creative activities/strategies to use when working with bereaved children and young people
- Resources and reading materials
- Exploring your own experiences of loss in childhood and how this can impact us when we are supporting and/or observing grieving children
The workshop is aimed at all professionals who come into contact with grieving children and young people as part of their work.
Please note: Participants will be invited to reflect on their own personal experiences of grief and loss, particularly in childhood. Please consider the impact this might have during the training. We would not recommend attendance if you have suffered a recent, significant loss or bereavement.
